Southwestern Community College, as part of their master plan, required a central emergency generator to serve their new Security Building, Math and Science Building, existing Building 210, and provide infrastructure for future buildings. Engineering Partners gathered all building load information from the College and provided load calculations to determine the size of the main generator, main distribution switchboard, and developed a plan to interconnect to the new and existing buildings.
The $1.5M project required a 1,250kW, 4,160V, 3 phase diesel emergency generator with an integral fuel tank for capacity of 24 hours of runtime, to provide emergency power to their main campus. The project included a 1200 amp, 4,160V main distribution board, step down transformers for new and existing buildings, and automatic transfer switches. The project included new underground electrical vaults, underground ductbanks, and concrete equipment pads for all electrical equipment. EPI worked with Civil engineers to provide underground ductbank routes to avoid existing utilities as much as possible.
