Scope involved construction of (4) new buildings, (1) new central chilled water plant, a new rappelling tower, expansion of an existing central chilled water plant and armory. Also involved extending the existing 12KV electrical distribution system to new pad mounted transformers and extending up to 2400 pair copper and fiber optic cabling from the main switch to the project site to feed the new buildings. New facilities were designed as required to co-locate Intelligence and Radio Battalions at Camp Pendleton.
New buildings design included vehicle repair bays for tactical vehicle and radio repairs including 5-ton and 10-ton bridge cranes, training headquarters, rappelling tower, counter intelligence, and academic instruction. Work at the new and existing central plants involve installation of air cooled chillers and boilers including pumps for the new and expanded buildings. 1,000 new parking spaces were included in the design with detailed point-by-point lighting calculation and design for the parking area lighting.
The new central plant was designed for future connected loads with controls including microprocessor control of chillers, VFD’s, pumps, fan coils and exhaust fans. Chilled water pumping was configured as Primary/Secondary with VFD’s on the pumps.
